Sara Gronewold Hired as the new COC sculling director

The Outdoor Center is pleased to introduce Sara Gronewold as our next sculling director. Sara has coached at our sculling camps for twenty years and brings a wealth of high-level sculling experience, knowledge and a strong desire to help rowers improve.

After learning to row at Boston University, Sara competed on the United States Rowing team, rowing in four World Championships and earning gold in 1996 and bronze in 1999 in the women’s 4-. Sara began her coaching career in 2000, and came to Craftsbury to coach her first sculling camp soon after in 2002.

More recently, Sara was the Director of Sculling at the Ann Arbor Rowing Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan for six years. In 2018, Sara stepped back from that role to build her massage therapy practice while continuing to coach both privately and of course, here on Great Hosmer Pond.

Sara looks forward to becoming a greater part in the Craftsbury community while working alongside our diverse set of rowing campers. “I find it extremely rewarding to witness people's progress with their sculling over the course of their camps,” Sara says, “and I'm thrilled to be able to play a more central role in that. I have always felt like I'm learning right alongside the campers, by listening to the other coaches, and studying how people integrate the coaching they receive into their stroke(s).”

We can’t wait for Sara to bring her skills and charisma to our sculling programs and look forward to when she starts later this month. Please join us in welcoming her!
