Craftsbury Weekend notes: 2-4 January

Conditions after Monday’s thaw

Thaw wasn’t nearly as bad as feared. Minimal snow loss, still ~90% open. Check Conditions Board for the latest. Even better news? After a week of limping along with one PistenBully, we’ll have a second one running again for the weekend, with a third in play next week.

Racing: Race for Warmth fundraiser - Saturday, 10:00am-Noon

Perhaps fittingly for a cold forecast this weekend, the Center is hosting the Race for Warmth, a fundraising 5/10k race to raise money for the Northeast Kingdom Community Action's Warmth Fund. You can join the cause - registration is open until Thursday, January 1 at 8:00pm and 85% of the proceeds of the event will go to the Warmth Fund to help our neighbors stay warm this winter.

Want to avoid the racing?

  • Racing will be mostly on Murphy’s and Duck Pond - watch the conditions board for full details or see the maps on the registration site.

  • Many trails will be available besides the race trails, providing lots of opportunities for a quieter experience.

  • Race trails will allow non-race traffic, though we ask that you travel in the direction of the course and yield to racers

  • Racing will be over by noon. The simplest approach to avoiding the racing would be to come in the afternoon - and it is forecast to be warmer then anyhow.

Race info is over here, including schedule, course maps and more.

Dress warm! Chilly weather all weekend in the forecast

2026 is coming in cold and aggressive. Check your forecast of choice, stay tuned to the Center’s weather station - and probably pack the mittens and an extra hat.

Enjoy delicious coffee and pastries starting Friday

After New Year’s Eve and Day off, Front and Center will be open this weekend for your caffeination needs.
