For questions about the actual equipment (boats/oars), please contact our sculling department by email (sculling@craftsbury.com). Email will get you the fastest and most accurate response to your question. We’re often too busy to schedule a call during sculling camp season, and one staff member may know more than another about an individual equipment item.

All boats are sold in “as is” condition. Scuffs, scrapes, and small bruises aside, every boat on our sale list is complete and ready to be rowed unless specifically noted. All of our boats are regularly inspected by our staff during the season, so you can be sure the boats have been well maintained. Please see here for a selection of boat pictures. We can send pictures of damaged areas of boats to interested buyers, but we do not keep pictures on file of all boats in our fleet. Please see the websites of the respective boat companies for technical information about and pictures of their boats. Ours are the same unless noted otherwise, plus a few years of camp use between May-October (covered winter storage for the other months), with any damage beyond minor scuffs/scrapes listed in the description of the boat.

You can put down a $500 security deposit (plus tax) by phone as soon as a boat is listed for sale. Boat deposits are refundable with written notice of cancellation, minus $200.00, but there are no refunds on oars. Each boat and pair of oars has an available date listed with it. Most will be after our camp season concludes in early October. A few specific items may be available earlier if circumstances permit. Please email us if you are interested in picking up your boat early, and we will let you know if it will be possible. All boats are available until snow makes our boathouse inaccessible for transport, usually in November, at which point we will move the dates to the following May for when the snow clears.

If you pick up your boat yourself, you must bring your own boat rack, straps, padding, flagging, etc., and be prepared to manage the loading and transportation process entirely by yourself. We cannot guarantee the availability of staff members to help you beyond identifying the correct boat. We are not responsible for any damage once the boat leaves our boathouse to go on your vehicle.

If you live in the state of Vermont or pick up your boat at Craftsbury as a private individual, you are required to pay 6% VT state sales tax. This tax is not included in the listed prices. Out-of-state buyers using a registered boat carrier to deliver their boats are exempt from sales tax.

Clients interested in transport via a boat carrier are responsible for making your own arrangements. • We will de-rig boats for no additional charge prior to shipping, delivery, or pickup.

• Buyers who will be attending the Head of the Charles (HOCR) may wish to take advantage of shipping your equipment on the Craftsbury trailer for $140. Space is limited for trailering, so please let the office know of your interest when making your deposit. This weekend is busy enough that boats delivered to HOCR will only be available for pickup at specified times TBD.

• All buyers must pay the balance before the boat can be shipped or picked up.

Payment in full is required to hold oars. Oar purchases are non-refundable. Vermonters and buyers picking up oars from the Center must pay 6% VT sales tax, not included in the listed prices below. Those purchasing boat and oars together can have the equipment delivered together by personal pickup (with the additional 6% VT State sales tax as noted above), one of the delivery services listed in the boat section above, or via the Center's trailer to the Head of the Charles Regatta for no additional charge. We can also ship oars via UPS. Please let the office know when making your purchase how you plan to receive the oars.
