CCD Summer 2026
Modeled after our successful junior Nordic ski racing programs (and with a nod to the Green Racing Project’s name), the Craftsbury Cycling Development team (CCD) is a youth mountain bike race team participating in the Vermont Youth Cycling league races.
The CCD team’s goal is to introduce local riders to cross country and enduro mountain bike racing in a supervised, low-key environment that is focused more on fun and skill development than race results. Many of our riders are also avid XC ski racers and most are also competing in an organized school sport. We host one practice each week and accompany athletes to the VTYC races around the state.
All riders 5th grade and older are welcome to join the CCD, whether you’re relatively new to the sport of mountain biking or you’re a seasoned racer. All we ask is that all team members try at least one race over the course of the season.
For summer 2026 we will be splitting the program into two groups, CCD 1 aimed at rising 8th graders through seniors and CCD 2 aimed at rising 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. We hope that this will allow us to tailor the sessions better to each age group’s developmental milestones. CCD 1 will have practices at 8:30am on Thursday mornings, beginning on June 18th. CCD 2 will be at 4pm on Wednesdays, alongside our Summer Bike Club program. Those practices will begin on June 24th. The CCD 2 crew will have their own dedicated group within the Bike Club structure, with a rotating cast of coaches (Mike, Ollie, and Anna) along with some college-aged MTB racer volunteers. Each practice will focus on specific skill development (pumping, cornering, line choice, technical climbing) or building fitness through interval sessions to get ready for racing.
Our coaching staff includes Ollie Burruss (PMBIA Level 1 trained), Audrey Mangan (PMBIA Level 1 trained), and Mike McCarthy (former pro road/CX rider).
For the fall of 2026 the CCD program will cost $150 (in addition to race entries or VTYC league membership) and will run from late June to late August.
