Training week of 9/28

[Back to the Club Updates page]

EVERYONE:

  • Attendance form! Please fill this out weekly to help us plan.

  • Training plan: still here.

  • Winter program registration: will open at 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 7th, via your membership portal. Check out our program info here so you know the details before it’s registration time. Notable tweaks from last year:

    • Intermediate Adults/Masters sessions are getting pushed toward either end of the day to better accommodate working folks: Mondays will be at 3:30 and we will have a Thursday morning 8:00am session as well.

    • We’re offering a “High School” program this year, a one day/week program to better accommodate kids who prioritize skiing for their high schools but want some additional coaching. It will be led by Jason Serota-Winston and meet at 11:00am on Sundays.

JUNIORS:

  • Iron and bloodwork: we’re sort of annoying about encouraging y’all to get bloodwork done periodically to check your ferritin levels. Some new guidelines just came out around iron—it’s work taking a look at the updated recommendations and discussing with your doctor as needed.

  • Mandatory fall team meeting: will be on Sunday, November 8th, in the late morning (after practice). This is when we’ll get into some of the nitty gritty details about winter.

  • Equipment: we’ll send out more info to the whole team soon. But yes, there will still be a “team night” when you can order skis through the club at a discount. Usually late October.

  • US Ski & Snowboard membership renewal: the “early pricing” deadline is coming up in October.

    • Might as well also renew your NENSA membership while you’re at it!

    • Link to our attempt at a membership overview here (links to other things at the bottom)

    • You need some sort of US Ski & Snowboard license if you want to race in any Eastern Cups. Otherwise you don’t really need one.

  • OMG Eastern Cups. These are a ways off still but will come up fast. We will likely have more people wanting to do team travel than we have capacity for (we can typically take 20-22). Priority will be given to those who have shown the most commitment to training this summer and fall! More details to come, but here are our tentative lodging plans to this point for any families who want to be nearby:

    • EC #1 @ Holderness: Frontenac Lodge (where we stayed last year) in Plymouth; no space for additional people but close to other lodging options

    • EC #2 @ Quarry Rd: Best Western Waterville (usual hotel; has competitive rates and lots of rooms; plenty of room for families to stay there too)

    • EC #3 @ Lake Placid: 2 houses on Hurricane Mtn Rd in Keene (no room for additional people)

    • EC #4 @ Oak Hill: Pierce’s Inn (where we stayed last year) in Etna; no space for additional people.

U14s:

  • We’re super proud of how well y’all have been doing at practices! Woot!

BKL:

  • Attendance form? Please? Please!

  • Practices will continue happening on Thursday afternoons into the fall.

MASTERS/ADULTS:

  • Business as usual for y’all this week.

BIATHLETES:

  • Schedule notes:

    • BKL biathlon is every other week for the fall. Next BKL biathlon practice will be 10/8.

  • Race Opportunities:

    • Singletrack Shootout #2 is THIS WEEKEND on Oct 4th. Sign up soon; it’s filling fast.

    • Selecting races for the winter: we want Jrs to be more STRATEGIC in picking their race starts this year. We’ll be chatting with biathlon families soon.

      • Wisconsin Jr Nationals Dec 27-31. Read information here. We would like to buy plane tickets at the end of this week.

      • CanAm Eastern Cups (formerly know as Eastern Regional Cups) schedule here. We’ll likely send coaches to #1, #2 & #4. Suitable for most U14/Jrs.

  • Weekly Dryfire ideas

    • 3-4 days per week if you own your own rifle at home.

    • Pick a position.

      • 3 by 5 minutes holds in position without bolting or triggering

I spy items from the clubhouse costume box…
