Training week of 10/5

[Back to the Club Updates page]

EVERYONE:

  • Attendance form! Please fill this out weekly to help us plan.

  • Training plan: still here.

  • Winter program registration: will open at 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 7th, via your membership portal. Check out our program info here so you know the details before it’s registration time. Notable tweaks from last year:

    • Intermediate Adults/Masters sessions are getting pushed toward either end of the day to better accommodate working folks: Mondays will be at 3:30 and we will have a Thursday morning 8:00am session as well.

    • We’re offering a “High School” program this year, a one day/week program to better accommodate kids who prioritize skiing for their high schools but want some additional coaching. It will be led by Jason Serota-Winston and meet at 11:00am on Sundays.

  • Help us raise $ for the scholarship fund: we’re slinging burgers and grilled cheese at our home VTYC bike race on Sunday, Oct. 18 to raise money for the Kathy Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund. We need a few folks who like working a grill or the register to help out for a few hours! Sign up here or get in touch with Darcie A. on Slack (there’s only one) to help out.

JUNIORS:

  • Sunday 10/11: we’re hosting a multi-club day of training. MNC, GMVS, and Gould will all be coming to the Center. In the morning we’ll have a rollerski TT at 9:30am (for those who feel good about descending Dennis’s at race speed) or an alternate on foot/erg workout (for those still working on rollerrski comfort at speed) at 9:00am. Then we’ll have a potluck lunch, followed by strength at 2pm. Should be fun to hang out with friends from other teams!

  • Iron and bloodwork: we’re sort of annoying about encouraging y’all to get bloodwork done periodically to check your ferritin levels. Some new guidelines just came out around iron—it’s work taking a look at the updated recommendations and discussing with your doctor as needed.

  • Mandatory fall team meeting: will be on Sunday, November 8th, in the late morning (after practice). This is when we’ll get into some of the nitty gritty details about winter.

  • Equipment: we’ll send out more info to the whole team soon. But yes, there will still be a “team night” when you can order skis through the club at a discount. Usually late October.

  • US Ski & Snowboard membership renewal: the “early pricing” deadline is coming up in October.

    • Might as well also renew your NENSA membership while you’re at it!

    • Link to our attempt at a membership overview here (links to other things at the bottom)

    • You need some sort of US Ski & Snowboard license if you want to race in any Eastern Cups. Otherwise you don’t really need one.

  • OMG Eastern Cups. These are a ways off still but will come up fast. We will likely have more people wanting to do team travel than we have capacity for (we can typically take 20-22). Priority will be given to those who have shown the most commitment to training this summer and fall! More details to come, but here are our tentative lodging plans to this point for any families who want to be nearby:

    • EC #1 @ Holderness: Frontenac Lodge (where we stayed last year) in Plymouth; no space for additional people but close to other lodging options

    • EC #2 @ Quarry Rd: Best Western Waterville (usual hotel; has competitive rates and lots of rooms; plenty of room for families to stay there too)

    • EC #3 @ Lake Placid: 2 houses on Hurricane Mtn Rd in Keene (no room for additional people)

    • EC #4 @ Oak Hill: Pierce’s Inn (where we stayed last year) in Etna; no space for additional people.

U14s:

  • We’re super proud of how well y’all have been doing at practices! Woot!

BKL:

  • Attendance form? Please? Please!

  • Practices will continue happening on Thursday afternoons into the fall.

MASTERS/ADULTS:

  • Business as usual for y’all this week.

BIATHLETES:

  • Schedule notes:

    • BKL biathlon is every other week for the fall. There IS practice this week.

  • Race Opportunities:

    • Wisconsin Jr Nationals Dec 27-31. The roster has been finalized.

    • CanAm Eastern Cups (formerly know as Eastern Regional Cups) schedule here. We’ll likely send coaches to #1, #2 & #4. Suitable for most U14/Jrs. You’ll need your own lodging and transportation.

  • Weekly Dryfire ideas

    • 3-4 days per week if you own your own rifle at home.

    • Standing; Set-up Progression, with a target on the wall

      • 3x set up your feet only (don’t take rifle off). Move out of position each time.

      • 3x set up your feet, now add your your hips. (Hitch that front hip forward towards the target to create a stable shelf, arch your back like a banana so your belly button is forward)

      • 3x set up your feet, hips, rifle off, and (empty) mag in. Keep hips locked.

      • 3x set up your feet, hips, rifle off, (empty) mag in, and elbow set.

      • 3x add looking over both sights then let head sink onto cheekpiece.

      • 3x full set-up. Take a single shot.

The rollerloop is looking scenic out there!
