Training week of 5/19

EVERYONE:

  • Nathan Suter: this week our community was hit hard by the sudden and untimely death of Nathan Suter. Nathan skied with our masters programs and his son Asa is an integral part of our junior team. For those who wish to support their family, there’s a GoFundMe set up here, and that link has info about memorial arrangements as well.

  • The training plan is here. Don’t forget to fill out the attendance form.

  • The Genny Tenny: is Sunday! There are various distance options. More info here. Juniors and U14s: you all are welcome to use the coupon code on the website (yes, even U20s).

  • Registration for summer programs is open via your Craftsbury membership portal, just like in the winter. Please try to hop on program registration sooner rather than later. Reach out to us if you hit any hiccups.

  • Rollerski equipment rentals (for juniors and U14s) are also live in the membership portal. Please tackle those this week if possible!

JUNIORS:

  • Elmore TT: great work today on a slippery day! Results here. Remember: this is a test against yourself to see if you can do better next time.

  • Bigger training week this week: try to get in a proper OYO distance workout Saturday.

  • Getting bloodwork done: we’ve been chatting with most people about this in their goals meetings: we encourage all junior skiers to get bloodwork done once every year or two. We’ve seen a lot of iron deficiency amongst our junior skiers over the last couple years, which can have pretty rugged effects but is also relatively easily addressed once diagnosed. Just check in with your primary care doctor and say your ski coaches are recommending it!

  • Winter evals + spring meetings: good work to those of you who have completed your winter program evaluations and signed up for spring meetings! If you haven’t done this yet, please do. The meeting signup is linked from the program eval. If you were a U14 this past winter and are moving into the junior group, your program evaluation won’t prompt you to sign up for a meeting, but we’d still love to check in. The meeting signup is here. Holler at us if you have trouble signing up.

  • Audrey shared training logs with those of you who have kept them in the past and/or those of you who are 2nd year U16s whose emails she could glean. If you didn’t get a training log, email jrskiing to request one and let us know what email account you’d like it shared with. This is a task for you, not for your parents.

U14s:

  • Woot Elmore TT: great work today on a slippery day! Results here. Remember: this is a test against yourself to see if you can do better next time. Doing this as a U14 at all is impressive!

  • Rollerskiing will happen for the first time for U14s Sunday. Please try to get ahead of your rental orders earlier this week so that we can be sure to have enough equipment for everyone.

BIATHLETES:

  • International Biathlon Day – we’ll celebrate with a club potluck after junior biathlon practice on Wednesday, May 21 around 6:15pm. We can keep the range open after practice for a bit so you can teach your parents how to shoot! Hazel’s family will bring a bunch of Kielbasa sausages to grill. Other contributions of sides, salads, vegetarian dishes, and dessert are encouraged.  BKL Biathlon and Adult Biathlon program families are welcome to join for the potluck as well.  We may or may not end up with some special guests from the GRP or from Quebec.

  • Adult Biathlon- Tuesday night adult biathlon is slated to start this week on May 20th.  Please fill out the attendance form if you are coming so we know how many folks to expect.

ADULTS/MASTERS:

  • First week! We’re excited to get going with y’all. This year, your coaches will feature Jackie and Joe, both returning and eager to work with y’all, and also Michaela Keller-Miller, a relatively new face on the masters coaching scene.

  • Later practice this Sunday: due to the GRP helping with the Genny Tenny earlier in the morning, your Sunday practice is getting bumped a bit later, to 10am. But the normal time will be 9am.

Happy birthday to Rick!
