  • Wish you worked in Craftsbury?! Here’s a shameless plug from Anna on behalf of the Craftsbury school board: Craftsbury Academy is looking for both a full-time high school math teacher and a long-term sub for grades 4-5 for the first half of the school year (so coach Hallie can have a baby!). For more info contact our principal, Lisa McCarthy at lmccarthy@ossu.org or apply at www.schoolspring.com .

JUNIORS:

  • It’s an easy week. That means the focus is more on feeling good by the end than on doing a bunch of training. Aim to execute the workouts well and bail if you’re really tired. All practices will be 1.5 hours (lower/younger end) to 2 hours (older/longer end) this week. When coaches say you’re done; you’re done. Go swimming or something.

  • Sunday “Craftsbury Classic” for practice: this is a running race hosted by local friend/farmer/skier/CSC parent Pete Johnson on some fresh new trails in Craftsbury. Details:

    • authoritative info is here

    • You can decide if you want to do 5k or 10k

    • bring $10 cash or check and meet at the race site (address on website) by 8:30 at the latest to warm up for a 9am start. We'll wrap up there in plenty of time to make it back to the Center for Megan's nutrition talk at 11am. We’ll plan to have. van to bring some kids back to the Center if your parents want to ditch you.

  • Team nutrition/fueling talks this summer: the first one is this Sunday at 11am! Consider it a required part of practice, please. Plan to come back to the Center for this after the running race—we’ll have a van for this as well. This talk is for both athletes and parents.

    • Sunday, 7/6 @ 11:00am: Activities Center

    • Friday, 7/25 @ 11:15am: Activities Center

    • Friday, 8/8 @ 11:15am: Activities Center

  • Lost Nation Rollerski race: initially scheduled for 7/26, we’ve moved this to Friday 7/25. More info can be found on the registration page. It is currently password-protected. The password will get emailed to juniors. Note that the only race distance is 10k, and we only recommend it for U18s+ who are extremely comfortable on rollerskis and eager to race the likes of Julia Kern.

  • CommRow: leaving these links here for folks who wanna do it. Juniors can participate in our Community Rowing program for a very discounted rate. To take part, get a $50 “beginner CommRow pass” here (unlimited uses for the remainder of the season) and then sign up for Thursday rowing sessions as desired in the “classes” part of the membership portal. This is a special thing for CSC junior skiers only. Adults are of course welcome to do CommRow, too, at the regular rate.

U14s:

  • Great work to those who traipsed around Beaver Meadow this morning! Notes for next time, as this may have been the first “hike/run” for many of you: typically there’s a good mix of running and hiking on these adventures. We recommend getting a hydration pack or running vest with decent storage so that you can run comfortably on these outings. Also, trail shoes are really helpful! Road running shoes are slick on these slimy days.

  • Note the funky schedule this week: no Friday practice and Sunday = a local running race (more info below).

  • See above re: nutrition talk Sunday - U14s and/or their parents are encouraged to join if they’d like.
