Training week of 7/7

EVERYONE:

  • The training plan is here.

  • Don’t forget to fill out the attendance form.

  • Tuesday Night Races are a fun local race opportunity for runners and bikers alike! These are up and running (ha) for the summer. More info here.

JUNIORS:

  • Big Hosmer overnight is this week—WEDNESDAY night! Sorry we didn’t give you much heads up. We didn’t give ourselves much heads up but we’re sending it because the weather/timing is just right. Here’s how it works:

    • You come for morning practice on Wednesday with all your stuff to spend the night in a very rustic cabin (sleeping pad, bag, pillow, etc.). BYO lunch for Weds!

    • You have am and pm practice Weds, then we feed you dinner in some fashion TBD, and we paddle (in COC boats) across Big Hosmer to a cabin where we sleep

    • We paddle back here and feed you breakfast on Thurs, then you go to Thurs am practice. Then you go home.

    • We invoice you for food afterward. You need to sign up on the attendance form so we can plan.

  • Heads up that we’re eyeballing Tuesday, 7/15, for our daytrip to the Whites. We leave Craftsbury early (exact time TBD but no later than 7am), stop and pick people up in Hardwick, W. Danville, and St. J, and go explore some nice mountains in NH. We get back around dinnertime ish.

  • Hours are back on the plan. We tried taking them away because we thought you would be less stuck on them, but instead you got anxious about not even knowing the ballpark. So that kinda backfired on us. Remember that hours are a very rough guideline!

  • Thanks for coming to today’s nutrition talk. Here are the slides, which you can find later if you remember they’re in our shared nutrition folder. Here’s when the next ones are happening (no, they will not be the same every time):

    • Wednesday, 7/23 @ 11:15am: Activities Center note the new day/time due to rollerski race!

    • Friday, 8/8 @ 11:15am: Activities Center

  • Lost Nation Rollerski race: initially scheduled for 7/26, we’ve moved this to Friday 7/25. More info can be found on the registration page. Registration is now open without a password. Note that the only race distance is 10k, and we only recommend it for U18s+ who are extremely comfortable on rollerskis and eager to race the likes of Julia Kern.

U14s:

  • Normal week this week scheduling-wise! Whew.

  • Nutrition talks: you’re welcome at all of these. Additional dates above.

BKL:

  • ROLLERSKIING this week! Wow! Please be right on time or even a few minutes early for practice so we can get everyone suited up. Bring your own helmet. If you don’t have one let us know.

BIATHLETES:

  • Another quirk this week: because our workout on Wednesday will go a bit too long, we’ll miss our U17 biathlon practice slot. So we’re bumping you to Tuesday with the U15s.

  • Upcoming race opportunities:

    • Singletrack Shootout on Sundy July 27. Sign up early as this usually fills up. There are mountain bike or running biathlon options. Experienced category is suitable for our U15/U17+ biathletes.  Novice category is suitable for our BKL biathletes, any skiers (age 10 and up) or parents looking to try out the sport.

    • USBA Summer Rollerski Nationals on Aug 2 and 3. Suitable for U15/17+ biathletes who are 1.) very comfortable rollerskiing downhill corners and in packs, and 2.) have been shooting with us for multiple seasons.  The U13/15 course will use the downhill around the old walker building.  Older athletes must be confident enough to ski the “airplane” loop downhill.  U19 athletes need to sign up well before July 17th to get in the IBU basic registration database.

ADULTS/MASTERS:

  • Note the rollerski option for Sunday!
