Training week of 7/14

EVERYONE:

JUNIORS:

  • Reminder that the week of 7/28-8/3 will have very little organized training. Coaches are largely ditching y’all for a minute.

  • Tuesday, 7/15: our daytrip to the Whites! Here’s the nitty gritty:

    • Departure options:

      • 7am van from COC

      • 7:25am van @ Tops in Hardwick

      • 7:45am van @ West Danville Park & Ride

      • 8:00am van @ St J Park & Ride

      • 8:45am you can skip the van and meet us at the Old Bridle Path trailhead in Franconia if you want

    • Intended schedule: start @9am. Be in the mountains until ~3pm. Then come back. You can do the math on the return trip and when we’ll get to the various dropoffs.

    • Bring: lots of water (we’ll be able to refill at Greenleaf Hut but likely nowhere else) a little water filter if you have access to one; lots of food; a rainshell and warmer layer; some basic first aid supplies; a way to carry all of those things; a full change of clothes/towel/more food for after; sunscreen; trail shoes; a phone with some maps on it if you a phone—you know the deal at this point.

    • RE: maps on phones: we’ll have paper maps as usual, but why wouldn’t you just help yourself out? Download CalTopo. Here’s where we’re going. Decision on longer loop to be made dependent on our progress.

  • Sunday creemee run: we plan to have all y’all run to the Albany Genny, one way or another. The shortest group will have a ~5 mile run and be ready to get picked up at the Albany Genny by around 9:45. The longest group will run much longer and be ready to be picked up at the Albany Genny by around 10:45/11. And there will be something in between. We’ll also have a van to shuttle kids back to COC for anyone who needs that (will probably do 2 trips). The best plan on the pickup end is to communicate with coaches/parents/chauffeurs about exactly what you’re doing!

  • Nutrition: here are the slides from the last talk, which you can find later if you remember they’re in our shared nutrition folder. Our next talks:

    • Wednesday, 7/23 @ 11:15am: Activities Center note the new day/time due to rollerski race!

    • Friday, 8/8 @ 11:15am: Activities Center

  • Lost Nation Rollerski race: initially scheduled for 7/26, we’ve moved this to Friday 7/25. More info can be found on the registration page. Registration is now open without a password. Note that the only race distance is 10k, and we only recommend it for U18s+ who are extremely comfortable on rollerskis and eager to race the likes of Julia Kern.

  • Lake Placid Camp: is Aug 11-15 (Jrs only) and is a big ol' training trip. Last year's schedule, etc. here. We need to know who is coming ASAP!

U14s:

  • Most of you will be on campus Tuesday but indicate on attendance if you’re planning to go to the Whites. For most of you, being on campus will be more appropriate/fun.

  • Sunday creemee run: we plan to have all y’all run to the Albany Genny, one way or another. The shortest group will have a ~5 mile run and be ready to get picked up at the Albany Genny by around 9:45. Another group will go more like 7 miles and will be closer to a 10am pickup. We’ll also have a van to shuttle kids back to COC for anyone who needs that (will probably do 2 trips). The best plan on the pickup end is to communicate with coaches/parents/chauffeurs about exactly what you’re doing!

  • Nutrition talks: you’re welcome at all of these. Additional dates above.

BKL:

  • Attendance form: pleeease fill it out. It really helps us plan!

  • ROLLERSKIING this week! Ack, we’re trying again! Please be right on time or even a few minutes early for practice so we can get everyone suited up. Bring your own helmet. If you don’t have one let us know.

BIATHLETES:

  • Upcoming race opportunities:

    • Singletrack Shootout on Sunday July 27. Sign up early as this usually fills up. There are mountain bike or running biathlon options. Experienced category is suitable for our U15/U17+ biathletes.  Novice category is suitable for our BKL biathletes, any skiers (age 10 and up) or parents looking to try out the sport.

    • USBA Summer Rollerski Nationals on Aug 2 and 3. Suitable for U15/17+ biathletes who are 1.) very comfortable rollerskiing downhill corners and in packs, and 2.) have been shooting with us for multiple seasons.  The U13/15 course will use the downhill around the old walker building.  Older athletes must be confident enough to ski the “airplane” loop downhill.  U19 athletes need to sign up well before July 17th to get in the IBU basic registration database.

ADULTS/MASTERS:

  • Stay tuned re: Sunday: we may not have a coach available but are trying to see if we can craft something fun to do OYO.
