CCD Riders Head to Burke for Weekend of Racing
Almost the entirety of Craftsbury Cycling Development's (CCD) twenty riders headed to Burke Mountain for the only two-day Vermont Youth Cycling race weekend, contesting XC and enduro on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Pippa Abbene turned in a podium result for the weekend, taking 2nd in Cat C Girls at Saturday's XC race. Silvia Earlandt was the model of consistency, going 9th and then 6th in Cat B Girls across the two days. On the boys' side, Bowman Suddaby, Hadley Abbene, and Lillian Suddaby all raced Cat B at XC and moved up into the bigger, four-stage Cat A field for Sunday's enduro — and still finished inside the top 10 both times.
Perhaps most impressively, three CCD riders raced their first-ever mountain bike events this weekend: Gus League and Fox Modry, both age 10, in the Junior category on both days, and Hunter Wood in Sunday's Cat C enduro.
"Gus, Fox, and Hunter all did their first ever MTB races," coach Ollie Burruss noted. "I was super stoked on that."
Full results are posted at Bullitt Timing for Burke XC and Burke Enduro. CCD races next at Woodstock's Mt. Peg Enduro on September 19, then Catamount Outdoor Family Center on October 10, before hosting the VTYC season finale at home in Craftsbury on October 18.
