Help us maintain the Greensboro trails: raising funds for a new grooming machine

For more than 50 years, thanks to generous landowners and the early vision of Highland Lodge, skiers and snowshoers have enjoyed winter trails in Greensboro. For the past 15 winters, Craftsbury Outdoor Center has helped manage and groom those trails, using everything from snowmobiles to our PistenBullys.

Conditions in Greensboro haven't been as consistent as we or our trail users would like. Two things have held us back: staffing and equipment. We're fixing both, and we're asking the community to help with the second.

Staffing: We're hiring a dedicated Greensboro groomer, and interviews are happening now. With that person on board, we'll groom the Greensboro trails three days a week this winter, weather permitting.

Equipment: Our Greensboro snowmobiles were last replaced in 2015, and breakdowns have become common. A PistenBully can sometimes make the trip over on the Village Trail. That trail is lower in elevation, rough and wet, though, so it's often impassable, even when Greensboro has great snow higher up.

The plan: We want a tracked UTV with a grooming drag, based at Highland Lodge and dedicated to use in Greensboro. Craftsbury will own, maintain and staff it. It will pull an 8-foot drag, compared with the 5- to 6-foot drags our snowmobiles pull now. That means better grooming in fewer passes. It also has a heated cab, which makes those frigid early-morning shifts much more bearable for operators.

The total cost, including taxes, freight and shipping, is $46,303. Highland Lodge has already given $20,000. That leaves $26,303 for us to raise as a community so the machine is on the trails for the 2026/27 season.
