Training week of 6/22

[Back to the Club Updates page]

EVERYONE:

  • Rollerloop and gym availability: want to know when the rollerski loop or gyms are available for use? Head here to look at the schedule. Open gym can change without a ton of notice as groups sign it out due to weather, etc., but we’re trying to get better at planning ahead. The rollerloop availability is pretty reliable.

  • Tick checks, everyone: we spend a lot of time romping around grasses and ferns and stuff. Ticks are abundant this year. Do tick checks daily!

JUNIORS:

  • Which coach is commenting in your log?! If you keep a log, Anna is responsible for comments in people with names A-J and Audrey is in charge of K-Z. We read other logs too, but unsigned comments are from your designated log-reader.

  • 3000m TT: woot well done! You can find results here. Remember that our goal here is to have a consistent benchmark. Were you faster than last year? Great! Were you slower than last year? Maybe we’ve just identified something to work on!

  • Sports psychology - mental performance counseling sign-ups: this summer we’ll have a new resource for you! On Wednesdays, Jess Barber (local PE teacher who is also pursuing her masters in sports psych) will be on campus and available for one-on-one sessions. You can sign up for a half-hour session with her here. These are free and open to anyone on our team.

  • Sunday practice: note that most people will be off campus doing a hike/run kinda thing at Belvidere Mountain. You should have a little running pack/vest or Camelbak or drinkbelt or something that you can wear comfortably while running to carry your water and a snack!

  • The Lost Nation Roll: will be on Thursday, July 2. This is a 10k—no shorter options. This is targeting very experienced/confident U18+ skiers. Having a mix of experience levels on the track in a race makes it pretty dangerous with people overtaking each other on the downhill. If you’re wondering whether this is for you… it’s not. Registration is here and will be open to non-pro teams after 6/22.

  • Team training camp in August: is not going to be in Lake Placid. It’s gonna be in Bethel, ME. Preliminary trip information is here. Please read through that packet! We’re instituting some requirements this year about rollerski comfort and experience (spoiler: you must be fully comfortable on the entirety of our own rollerski loop) to help keep everyone safe on the roads. There is still space as of this posting! Beginning on Monday, 6/22, the second round signup window begins: rising college freshman may now sign up for camp. All the deets in that document linked above.

U14s:

  • 3000m TT: woot well done! You can find results here. We’re so impressed that a few U14s hopped right in there!

  • Sunday practice: we will be off campus doing a hike/run kinda thing at Belvidere Mountain. You should have a little running pack/vest or Camelbak or drinkbelt or something that you can wear comfortably while running to carry your water and a snack!

BKL:

  • Regular practice: will be happening this week despite BKL camp, since we had to cancel last week. But if you’re doing BKL camp and you’re tired, you should not feel obligated to attend both. And we’ll be rollerskiing! Bring your own helmet, please, and we’ll provide the rest. Practice will likely run a little late (until more like 5:15) due to the shuffle of getting everyone outfitted.

  • Tick checks: we noted this above, but tick checks are especially important for BKL since we play so many games that involve diving into the woods!

  • Bring a change of clothes + towel to summer practices. We often end up in the water if it’s hot. We don’t often take the time to change beforehand. It’s a good idea to have extra clothes.

MASTERS/ADULTS:

  • “These masters, they are beasts.” -Pepa

BIATHLETES:

  • BKL biathlon- We’ll try again for the first practice on Thursday. Hopefully no tornado warnings this time.

  • Jrs & U14s

    • Always bring poles to practice

    • Note late practice time on Tuesday to accomodate BKL camp

    • Intensity combos on Wednesday start up this week (Jrs only)

  • Singletrack Shootout novice races are scheduled for Aug 23 & Oct 4. Preregistration required.

  • Weekly dryfire ideas (for those with rifles at home). Try for 3-4 days per week.

    • Trigger progression

      • Start with good breathing/breath cut (1 min eyes closed/1 min eyes open)

      • Add trigger take up (1 min closed/1 min open)

      • Add in bolting (1 min closed/1 min open)

      • Add in shot (1 min closed/1 min open)

Almost 30 juniors + U14s laid down a 3000m time trial last week!
