Training week of 6/29

[Back to the Club Updates page]

EVERYONE:

  • Bounding poles: please use ones from the skate shack rather than grabbing new ones off the rack. Please make sure they have baskets, not rollerski tips. Please put them back where you find them, nicely organized by size.

  • New trail! There’s now a bit of singletrack connecting Lost Nation Rd to Murphy’s field, right where the hill starts to kick up. Check it out!

  • Gonna be hot this week. Prepare accordingly.

  • Rollerloop and gym availability: want to know when the rollerski loop or gyms are available for use? Head here to look at the schedule. Open gym can change without a ton of notice as groups sign it out due to weather, etc., but we’re trying to get better at planning ahead. The rollerloop availability is pretty reliable.

JUNIORS:

  • The Lost Nation Roll: register ASAP if you want to do this! Registration is capped at 100 and it’s filling up. The race is on Thursday, July 2. This is a 10k—no shorter options. This is targeting very experienced/confident U18+ skiers. Having a mix of experience levels on the track in a race makes it pretty dangerous with people overtaking each other on the downhill. If you’re wondering whether this is for you… it’s not. Registration is here.

  • Sports psychology - mental performance counseling sign-ups - remote on Tuesday this week: this summer we’ll have a new resource for you! Jess Barber (local PE teacher who is also pursuing her masters in sports psych) will be on campus and available for one-on-one sessions. This is typically Wednesdays but sometimes other days depending on various schedules. You can sign up for a half-hour session with Jess here. These are free and open to anyone on our team.

  • Team training camp in August: will be in Bethel, ME. Preliminary trip information is here. Please read through that packet! We’re instituting some requirements this year about rollerski comfort and experience (spoiler: you must be fully comfortable on the entirety of our own rollerski loop) to help keep everyone safe on the roads. Update 6/28: we’re oversubscribed for this already. We’ll talk more about this during the coming week, but we may need to figure out how to cut down our group size a bit.

U14s:

  • Y’all did so great at Belvidere. Nice job!

BKL:

  • Bring a change of clothes + towel to summer practices. We often end up in the water if it’s hot. We don’t often take the time to change beforehand. It’s a good idea to have extra clothes.

MASTERS/ADULTS:

  • Pretty standard week.

BIATHLETES:

  • Normal practice times for BKL and Adults

  • Jrs & U14s

    • Always bring poles to practice

    • Note later practice times on both Tuesday & Wednesday this week.

    • Friday 1 on 1s can start slightly late this week, whenever you wrap up from distance practice.

  • Singletrack Shootout novice races are scheduled for Aug 23 & Oct 4. Preregistration required.

  • Weekly dryfire ideas (for those with rifles at home). Try for 3-4 days per week.

    • Pick a position. Practice one shot 15 set-ups. Be deliberate placing your feet/knees, elbows, shoulders, etc. Close your eyes and relax in the position.

Another BKL camp is in the books!
