Training week of 7/6

[Back to the Club Updates page]

EVERYONE:

  • Attendance form! Please fill this out weekly to help us plan.

  • Slides from Megan’s nutrition talk last week: can be found here.

  • Waterfront use: the waterfront is busy much of the time with sculling camp use. It is NOT always open for use by skiers/families. Please check with coaches before going to swim off the docks.

  • Bounding poles: please use ones from the skate shack rather than grabbing new ones off the rack. Please make sure they have baskets, not rollerski tips. Please put them back where you find them, nicely organized by size.

  • New trail! There’s now a bit of singletrack connecting Lost Nation Rd to Murphy’s field, right where the hill starts to kick up. Check it out!

JUNIORS:

  • Tuesday is a little different this week in order to take advantage of trainin’ with the big kids.

  • Looking ahead to next week: we’re tentatively aiming for Tuesday, 7/14, as our day to get over to the Whites. This is a day trip (though we leave very early) and is open to Jr1s and Jr2s who feel extremely confident in their hiking/running for a 5-6 hour outing. If you’re not very confident in your hike/running but really want to go, reach out and we’ll see if we can make an alternate plan for another group, but no promises at this point.

  • Sports psychology - mental performance counseling sign-ups: You can sign up here. These are free and open to anyone on our team.

  • Team training camp in August: will be in Bethel, ME. Preliminary trip information is here. Please read through that packet! We’re instituting some requirements this year about rollerski comfort and experience (spoiler: you must be fully comfortable on the entirety of our own rollerski loop) to help keep everyone safe on the roads. Update 7/6: we’re oversubscribed for this already and one of these days we’ll check in about it.

U14s:

  • Y’all keep impressing us by showing up and giving such great effort!

BKL:

  • Bring a change of clothes + towel to summer practices. We often end up in the water if it’s hot. We don’t often take the time to change beforehand. It’s a good idea to have extra clothes.

MASTERS/ADULTS:

  • Pretty standard week.

BIATHLETES:

  • Normal practice times for BKL and Adults

  • Jrs & U14s

    • Note early practice time on Tuesday (for those not at the Stowe Toll Road).

    • No Wednesday biathlon this week as many of you are in the camp

    • BIPOC clinic- several of you are volunteering to help with the BIPOC clinic on Sunday from 1:30-3:30 (Thank you!!!)

    • A few reminders

      • Please be gentle taking rifles in/out of lockers

      • You need to come to ski practice to come to biathlon practice

  • Singletrack Shootout novice races are scheduled for Aug 23 & Oct 4. Preregistration required.

  • Weekly dryfire ideas (for those with rifles at home). Try for 3-4 days per week.

    • “Moment of Stillness.” Start with breathing only for a minute- can you find a moment after the fine aiming where everythings feels/looks quiet? Add in only bolting for a minute- find the stillness. Then add in triggering for a minute- focus on stillness before shot. Then do a minute focusing on stillness after the shot. Repeat both positions.

Thursday’s rollerski race was… hot.
