Training week of 7/20
[Back to the Club Updates page]
EVERYONE:
Attendance form! Please fill this out weekly to help us plan.
COC dock use: these are not a public lake access point. Please check in with coaches if you’d like to swim so we can maintain good relationships with (a) our sculling camps; and (b) our lake neighbors. Chaos on the docks recently has not been ideal for either. Reminder that the “Lakeside” property up the road is good for swimming—again, talk to coaches if you need more info.
Sneak peek ahead: we penciled in some training thoughts for the next 2 weeks so you can plan a bit. Things further out than this coming week may have to change depending on weather, etc., but we’ll try our best to stay true to our plans.
Community workout on Friday, August 7th: we’d love to assemble as many of you as possible for a community workout the morning of Friday, 8/7! This is open to anyone affiliated with the Craftsbury Ski Club: BKLers, juniors, parents, masters, GRP—the whole idea is to bring our club together for a workout. Details TBD but we’re aiming for a vaguely HYROX-influenced, on-foot, multi-station, running/functional fitness challenge. Got that?! It’ll be fun. We know many people will have work conflicts that morning but couldn’t pin down another date that would work.
JUNIORS:
Anna is away this week so please remember to reach out to Audrey as well if you need a timely response on something.
Looking ahead: On Tuesday 7/28 we’re aiming to do a volunteer work day with the Green Mountain Club at Belvidere/Eden’s Crossing. More to come.
Sports psychology - mental performance counseling sign-ups: You can sign up here. These are free and open to anyone on our team.
Team training camp in August: will be in Bethel, ME. At the moment it’s full. Preliminary trip information is here.
U14s:
Anna is away this week so please remember to reach out to Audrey as well if you need a timely response on something.
Looking ahead: On Tuesday 7/28 we’re aiming to do a volunteer work day with the Green Mountain Club at Belvidere/Eden’s Crossing. More to come.
BKL:
Bring a change of clothes + towel to summer practices. We often end up in the water if it’s hot. We don’t often take the time to change beforehand. It’s a good idea to have extra clothes.
MASTERS/ADULTS:
Pretty standard week.
BIATHLETES:
Normal practice times this week
Jr 1-on-1s will be pushed back slightly to 11:30 becuase of U32 track workout
A few reminers
You need to come to ski practice to come to biathlon practice- Jr/U14 & BKL
Please be gentle taking rifles in/out of lockers- Jr/U14
Rainy or humid? Run a patch through your barrel and dry it off before putting it away- Jr/U14
Race Opportunities:
Jericho Summer Rollerski Nationals are Aug 1 & 2. Jrs and up. Must feel VERY comfortable on rollerskis with multiple seasons of biathlon experience. (Ask us if you aren’t sure.)
Singletrack Shootout novice races are scheduled for Aug 23 & Oct 4. Preregistration required.
Dryfire ideas
3-4 days per week if you own your own rifle at home.
Prone this week. Do each of these for 2 minutes:
Race-style breathing only on a single target. Control the movement so it is perfectly straight up and down.
5 across movement in a 3 breath cadence. First breath is movement across (use first inhale to land directly below next target). Third breath- include a fine aiming pause (no triggering yet).
Same but with 2 breathe cadence
Same but with 1 breathe cadence
Finally add in the triggering. Choose your favorite cadence.
On Thursday we were joined by GMVS, some Italian friends, and SMS for rollerski intervals.
