Training week of 8/3

[Back to the Club Updates page]

EVERYONE:

  • Attendance form! Please fill this out weekly to help us plan.

  • COC dock use: these are not a public lake access point. We ask that ski program participants do not use the waterfront unless accompanied by a coach. Reminder that the “Lakeside” property up the road is good for swimming—again, talk to coaches if you need more info.

  • Community workout at the Lyndon Institute track on Friday, August 7th: we’d love to assemble as many of you as possible for a community track workout the morning of Friday, 8/7! This is open to anyone affiliated with the Craftsbury Ski Club: BKLers, juniors, parents, masters, GRP—the whole idea is to bring our club together for a workout. The focus will be L3 running but there will be some spicer bits, too. Vans are available from COC at 8am for our youth participants, otherwise we’ll be meeting at LI at 9:00am.

JUNIORS:

  • Our poor adherence to the general weekly outline: earlier this year, we had proposed a simple schedule (Tuesdays mostly rollerskiing with technique, Wednesday mostly on-foot intervals, etc.). As summer has progressed we’ve found it hard to actually stick to that plan for a number of reasons: sometimes the rollerski loop is too busy with other groups to effectively/safely add 30 juniors to it; often we’re working around another events/specific workouts; other times weather complicates our plans. We’re sorry we have not been able to be as straightforward as we had hoped.

  • Sports psychology - mental performance counseling sign-ups: You can sign up here. These are free and open to anyone on our team.

  • Bethel team training camp in August: preliminary trip information is here. This will get updated as we drill down on the details!

U14s:

  • You’re welcome to join the juniors Wednesday for rollerskiing if you’d like, since otherwise rollerskiing doesn’t fit into your practice plan this week.

BKL:

  • Attendance form? Please? Please!

  • Bring a change of clothes + towel to summer practices. We often end up in the water if it’s hot. We don’t often take the time to change beforehand. It’s a good idea to have extra clothes.

MASTERS/ADULTS:

  • We hope to see some of you on Friday for the community workout!

BIATHLETES:

  • Practice changes this week:

    • Tuesday practice pushed back to 11:15am because of last Megan nutrition talk of the summer.

    • 1-on-1s options this week will be on Thursday. No Friday this week because of Lyndon track workout. Both Jr & U-14s who haven’t done one yet are welcome to sign up.

  • Race Opportunities:

    • Singletrack Shootout novice races are scheduled for Aug 23 & Oct 4. These are suitable for all of you. Preregistration required.

  • Weekly Dryfire ideas

    • 3-4 days per week if you own your own rifle at home.

    • Triggering- pick a position

      • 2x2 minutes hold trigger at very high pressure (80+%) without letting up or sending off shot

      • 2x2 minutes- bolting and triggering take-up only (no shot) - practice getting to high pressure right away

      • 2x2 minutes- take shots but stay frozen for a moment on trigger after each shot.

This week the juniors and U14s helped the Green Mountain Club with a trailwork project on Belvidere Mountain.
