Training week of 1/26
[Back to the Club Updates page]
EVERYONE:
The training plan is here and below. Please fill out the attendance form at the start of each week.
Reminder that many groups don’t practice the next couple Sundays due to races
The Craftsbury Marathon is this weekend!
Here’s where you can find more info and also sign up to race
Here’s where you can sign up to volunteer
Looking ahead to the next weekend: Craftsbury is hosting the UVM carnival and an Eastern Cup.
Waxing skis: reminder that you can find some great videos here.
JUNIORS:
Eastern High School and U16 Qualifier:
is Sunday, February 1st. Register here before the price increases tonight. You all should do this race, with very few exceptions.
We Craftsbury coaches will be there for day-of-race waxing and support
YOU are in charge of prepping your skis (put on some PS6 or similar) and then bringing them with you to the venue. If you want us to race wax them beyond that, please bring them to us as soon as you get there. We coaches are not transporting your skis.
You are also in charge of ensuring that you have warmup skis—talk to us this week if you don’t
We are not offering van travel, as we will likely be leaving Craftsbury around 5am. If this is a dealbreaker for you, reach out and we’ll work to connect you with a ride from your area.
We need you to volunteer at the Marathon on Saturday. For real. The Outdoor Center is a place that gives you all a lot, and it’s time to give back. Anyone who can reasonably volunteer on Saturday (i.e., doesn’t have immovable prior commitments) is expected to sign up for a shift on the volunteer sheet linked above. Plus it’s kinda fun, you’ll feel good about it, and y’all probably need NHS service hours anyway.
Use your time well. Like, get your skis waxed instead of flopping around the clubhouse on your phone
Looking ahead at some dates:
EC #3: is here in Craftsbury 2/7-2/8.
Reminder: toggle to the “25-26 year” tab at the bottom of the training plan to get a better sense of what’s ahead this winter.
U14s:
Video from training with Pepa on Sunday 1/18: here
BKL (because you’re still in BKL!) race dates to put on your calendars include:
BKL:
Older groups (Hares, Owls, Moose) may start stretching practice until closer to 4:45 now that it’s light enough. On cold days things will be more concise and wrap closer to 4:30. Thanks in advance for being ready to snag your kid whenever they’re done in that 4:30-4:45 window.
BKL parent lessons: stay tuned!
Reminder that BKL won’t happen on the following days due to holidays and races:
Sunday, February 1 (But! there are BKL options at the Craftsbury marathon this weekend suitable for older/more experienced BKL skiers + parent chaperones)
Sunday, February 8 (But! There will be a bunch of high-level racing to watch all weekend AND a BKL race late afternoon on Sat 2/7)
BKL race dates to put on your calendars include:
BIATHLETES:
Adults: Normal practice schedule. There may be a few marathoners still on course- keep an eye out when crossing over to the range.
BKLers
Sunday practice will be combined at 1pm for both groups- experienced and beginner together. There is NO 10am practice this week. The Marathon will be wrapping up so make sure you look both ways before crossing the race course to get to the range.
Jrs/U14s
No Sunday practice this week. (Most of you will be at the HS Qualifier.) Go to your normal midweek practice day.
Sign-up here once for a 1-on-1 between December and February. Some of you are signed up this week.
Reminders
Take the required USBA Basic Rifle Safety online course! We will do in-person assessments in the next few weeks to finalize your certifications.
ADULTS/MASTERS:
Thursday Beginner 2: we’ve posted conflicting info before about whether we’re practicing at 1:00pm or 1:15pm. Sorry about that! Drop a note on the attendance form or Slack to let us know if you prefer one.
