Training week of 2/2
[Back to the Club Updates page]
EVERYONE:
The training plan is here and below. Please fill out the attendance form at the start of each week.
Thanks to the many of you who volunteered for the marathon. We legitimately couldn’t have done it without you.
Looking ahead to the next weekend: Craftsbury is hosting the UVM carnival and an Eastern Cup.
Waxing skis: reminder that you can find some great videos here.
JUNIORS:
Great work at the qualifier today! Of note: so many of you came back from your races with really good insight and self-assessments of your races. You were super polite and grateful about the waxing support, kind to your teammates, and just generally good sports. It made us proud.
Next Eastern Cup: is #3, right here at home in Craftsbury.
Info packet here.
Don’t forget to register by Wednesday. Yes, you need licenses to do this level of race—talk to us with questions.
EC #4 (final Eastern Cup): is in another week (Valentine’s Day weekend) at Oak Hill.
An info packet will be posted here when we get rolling on it. Which is hopefully soon.
Looking ahead at some dates:
EC #4: is Feb 14-15 @ Oak Hill in Hanover, NH.
Reminder: toggle to the “25-26 year” tab at the bottom of the training plan to get a better sense of what’s ahead this winter.
U14s:
Congrats to those of you who marathoned this weekend!
There are racing opportunities this weekend! Both on the same day. Between the two options, we want most of you to try one:
Sat, 2/7: second-year U14s who are gung-ho about racing might want to try racing “up” in the U16 5k skate race at the home Eastern Cup. It’s a good opportunity to dip your toes into next year’s racing scene without having to travel. Check in with coaches if you’re thinking about this.
Also Sat, 2/7: Bill’s Blastoff @ COC. Directly following the Eastern Cup racing. Info here. Update: canceled due to cold temps.
Coming up in a few weeks: Sun, 2/22: MNC skiathlon (rescheduled from 1/25 due to cold). Info here.
BKL:
Great work to those of you who hopped into the Marathon! We’re so impressed.
Older groups (Hares, Owls, Moose) will practice until 4:45 now that it’s light enough and also not supposed to be freezing all week.
Reminder that BKL won’t happen on the following days due to holidays and races:
Sunday, February 8 (But! There will be a bunch of high-level racing to watch all weekend AND a BKL race late afternoon on Sat 2/7)
BKL race dates to put on your calendars include:
BIATHLETES:
Racing opportunities (for adults and Jr/U14s)
Valcartier, Quebec: Feb 22-23
Fort Kent, ME: rescheduled to March 28-29
Adults
Normal practice schedule.
BKLers
Both experienced and beginners will be combined again this week. Your practice will be SATURDAY at 5:00pm instead of on Sunday. We are hoping most of you will decide to jump in the BKL ski race that afternoon and then can stick around for biathlon. Update: canceled due to cold temps
Jrs/U14s
No Sunday practice this week. (Most of you will be racing the Eastern Cup.) If you aren’t, come to open range and join some of our coaches for combos.
Midweek biathlon practice option will be on TUESDAY for everybody. (Many of you are gone on Wednesday for HS racing.)
Sign-up here once for a 1-on-1 between December and February. Some of you are signed up this week.
Reminders
Take the required USBA Basic Rifle Safety online course! We will do in-person assessments in February to finalize your certifications.
ADULTS/MASTERS:
Comp masters: note the unorthodox meeting location for Sunday—we’re trying to avoid the zoo that will be the Eastern Cup!

Went to a ski race with 3 dozen kids and this was the only picture we had at the end of the day?!
