Dog Policy

for dogs, owners and the community to coexist safely and happily, we offer the following guidance for all dogs on the Center’s property.

Generally:

  1. Dogs must be leashed at all times when they are in public areas

  2. Dog owners must clean up after their pets

  3. Pet owners will be billed for any damage caused by their dog while at Craftsbury

  4. Limited pet-friendly lodging options are available

  5. A dog that cannot be left unattended without barking, howling, whining, etc. must be attended at all times or the owner will be asked to arrange for alternative lodgings for the pet. We recommend Claire’s Dog Camp in Morrisville (802) 888-4094. Consider bringing a bark collar or a dog-sitter if you have any doubts about your pet.

Dogs are prohibited in the following areas:

  1. On the deck or inside of the Activity Center and Dining Hall

  2. On the porch or inside of the Main Office

  3. At the entrance or in the walkway of any buildings

  4. At the Center’s waterfront (find public access further down Lost Nation Road)

On Winter Trails:

While dogs are not allowed everywhere at Craftsbury, leashed or e-collared dogs are allowed to join you on your ski or snowshoe on select ski trails in Craftsbury and Greensboro. Pets are not presently allowed on any Center snowshoe trails or singletrack during the winter.

Which ski trails

In Craftsbury: the Lakes and some of their adjacent trails. Best access points: Lower parking lot and Hosmer Point.
In Greensboro: dogs are only allowed on the Town Hall Loop. Best access point is the Greensboro Town Hall parking.

You may note that these trails are marked on our maps with a dog icon. We also show them individually on our Winter ‘21 Guest services map.

Behavior and Poo-spectations

  • Either bag your pet’s poo and carry it out OR get it off the trail at a minimum.

  • Dogs are to be leashed or on e-collar (with a leash at the ready) for their own safety and the safety of other dogs and skiers. Note that there may also be dogs that are part of ice fishing parties on the lakes. Much like masks, your leash should be deployable at a moment’s notice for everyone’s safety.

  • Just like snowshoers and fatbikers, dogs should stay out of the classic tracks.

  • Your dog is allowed to walk on the ski trail without snowshoes or skis. You need to wear ski or snowshoe gear to prevent trail damage.

  • Be sure you are prepared with warm gear/booties, treats, water and that you and your buddy are up for the day’s adventures. We want to be able to welcome you back soon.

On Summer Trails:

  • Dogs must be on a physical leash on the following trails:

    • Woodward’s Wheelie

    • Moo Moo Farm

  • E-collars are acceptable elsewhere, with the exception of Ollie’s Folly and Who’s Ollie? - both are dog-free by landowner request.
